KEY
Located over the north porch light or bring your own
Once the cabin has been opened from for the season, you can start here. (If you are opening for the first time, start higher in elevation, which is included further down this page.)
- Turn the water by opening the green valve in the underground box in the driveway.
- Use water sparingly
- Toilet flushing - "If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down
POWER - because it's solar it should already be on
The monitor is in the kitchen under the cabinets. A good solid reading is 13. If it gets to 11 you're going to have no solar power. Use sparingly to avoid it going out. Keep extra lights off.
If it's not on, go to the generator shed and reset the solar system.
The key to the padlock is sometimes on the missing tree, or in the cabin.
In the shed behind the door about chest high is the inverter box.
There is a very small reset button in an indentation on the front of the inverter. Push it.
When the system is reset there should be a red light flashing.
GENERATOR
This is the valve that needs to be turned. When the handle of the valve is parallel to the line it is "on" or "open"
Press and hold the white button on the generator to start it.
CLEAN
- Cleaning supplies are in the kitchen cabinets under the sink area.
- Wipe down all counter surfaces before preparing food or other use. Critters share the cabin when we're away.
GRILL
The gas to the grill should ALWAYS be off when not in use. To turn on the gas, turn the valve in the narrow cabinet on the right, under the grill. The valve is way in the back.
The pilot lights are under the grill. There are three holes that match the valves. Use them as needed.
Light a fire with a lighter and hold next to the pilot light, THEN turn the know associated with the pilot light. If you turn on the gas first, you my have a slight 'explosion'.
Turn the gas on and back off each time the grill is used. The pilot lights leak and you'll get a gas smell if left on.
PLUG THE FRIDGE IN
WHEN OPENING FIRST THING IN THE SPRING:
CHECK THE LEVEL OF THE FUEL FOR THE GENERATOR
Use the dipstick to check the level.
Report back for filling or calendaring a fuel delivery.
CHECK THE PROPANE LEVEL
Test by pouring water on the tank in the sunshine and see where the level is.
TURN ON THE WATER HEATER
Make sure the drain valve is closed. That is on the bottom of the tank.
Make sure the water valves are open on the top of the tank, both in and out. (hot water and cold water)
Make sure the gas valve is open. (?red knob) There are instructions down by the red valve.
Light the pilot light.
